St. Catherine of Alexandria

St. Catherine was a virgin and martyr. She was born to a noble family, but converted to Christianity through a vision. Many of her fellow Christians were put to death under the reign of Maxentius. He offered Catherine a royal marriage if she would denounce the faith, but she refused. She was imprisoned and while Maxentius was away, she converted his wife and two hundred of his soldiers. When this was discovered, he had them all put to death. St. Catherine is the patroness of philosophers and preachers. Her feast day is celebrated on November 25th.
