St. Bede the Venerable
St. Bede entered the Benedictine monestary at the early age of seven. From the time he entered monastic life, Bede devoted himself to prayer, study of scripture, and Church history, and eventually to writing and teaching after being ordained a priest. Bede became well known for his theological works, and knowledge of ecclesiastical history. Bede was given the name venerable not long after his death, and became one of the last doctors of the Church. St. Bede's feast day is celebrated on May 25th.
