St. Athanasius
St. Athanasius was born in the year 296 to Christian parents. St. Athanasius made great progress in learning and virtue, and spent some time in retreat with St. Anthony in the desert. St. Athanasius would devote much of his life defeating the arian heresy which denied the divinity of Christ. Due to trials and persecutions, he spend much of his life in exile. Athanasius was elected bishop in 326 and later declared a Doctor of the Church. His feast day is celebrated on May 2.
