Parents: Get Your Kids Into the Kitchen to Learn Servant-Like Christian Faith
Aug 20, 2016 by Gretchen Filz
Too many families are leaving the cooking and feeding to just one person, according to EWTN’s star “cooking priest,” Fr. Leo Patalinghug. But this isn't how it should be!
Fr. Leo encourages parents to teach their kids that 'feeding one another' in the family is not just the job of mom or dad, but is a job for every family member, and even for all Christians. That's because one of the best ways to show love for others is to physically feed them, an example left to us by Christ himself and followed by many of his saints, one of the most famous people-feeders being Mother Teresa of Calcutta.
Fr. Leo sat down with us to talk about his successful family apostolate, Grace Before Meals, and his mission to make families understand that grace at mealtime is more than just a 5-second prayer of blessing over our food: The grace of God at the meal comes through the hands that feed.
"If everyone has the intention, My job is to feed one another, including my mom and dad, it provides them all a lesson in servant-like Christian faith. You see, I think we're raising a bunch of kids who are just darn-tootin' spoiled. They can get anything they want, and many of them don't even know how to cook! You, know, it's embarrassing. They're just going to be a bunch of lumps on a log, unless you bring them into this kitchen and share with them time-honored traditions on how to feed them."

Bringing your kids into the kitchen teaches them not only how to feed them themselves, but more importantly how to feed and serve others with a self-forgetful, Christ-like servant's heart. Have you tried this with your kids? If so, please share your experience in the comments below!
