ELECTION DAY: Prayer to Our Lady + Tips for Fasting & Sacrificing Today
Nov 08, 2016 by Gretchen Filz
- Bl. Pope Paul VI
We are inviting everyone to pray and sacrifice with us today, Tuesday, November 8, 2016, for our nation, for the outcome of our election, and for the transitional weeks and months ahead.
The disintegrating moral fabric of our country is something over which we should have much concern, as well as the blatant corruption we find in our government. Our response as faithful Catholics to these societal evils must be prayer and sacrifice offered to God for the conversion of hearts and souls for a more just society that honors Our Lord.
The good you can do today:- Pray: join us in praying the heartfelt prayer below to Our Lady, patroness of our country.
- Vote: make sure you and your family and friends get to the polling stations.
- Fast: skip a meal, reduce your meals (such as only bread and water), skip snacks and sweets.
- Sacrifice: Make small sacrifices throughout your day today such as spending extra time in prayer (especially Eucharistic Adoration), denying yourself physical comforts, and offering up your sufferings for the intention of our country.
ELECTION DAY PRAYER TO THE BLESSED MOTHER
O Most Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of Mercy, at this most critical time, we entrust the United States of America to your loving care.
Most Holy Mother, we beg you to reclaim this land for the glory of your Son. Overwhelmed with the burden of the sins of our nation, we cry to you from the depths of our hearts and seek refuge in your motherly protection.
Look down with mercy upon us and touch the hearts of our people. Open our minds to the great worth of human life and to the responsibilities that accompany human freedom.
Free us from the falsehoods that lead to the evil of abortion and threaten the sanctity of family life. Grant our country the wisdom to proclaim that God’s law is the foundation on which this nation was founded, and that He alone is the True Source of our cherished rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
O Merciful Mother, give us the courage to reject the culture of death and the strength to build a new Culture of Life.
"My whole strength lies in prayer and sacrifice.
They can move hearts far better than words."- St. Therese of Lisieux
