Child Jesus
Devotion to the Child Jesus honors Christ in his Incarnation and Divine Infancy. In many visions to various saints, Jesus manifested himself as a Divine Child (Divino Nino) to demonstrate his meekness, humility, gentleness, simplicity, and humanity. The Virgin Mary is most commonly depicted holding the Child Jesus. Devotions to Jesus in his infancy and childhood are varied; the most common are the Infant of Prague, El Santo Niño de Atocha, and the Santo Bambino di Ara Coeli in Rome. This devotion is a reminder that in matters of faith, what pleases God is the tender and trusting heart of a child. It is an especially poignant devotion during the Christmas season.
